Since her appointment in October 2022, Nicola has brought a vision of community participation and wider access for all to her festival programming. She regularly uses her platform to raise awareness of the positive outcomes that the arts and culture can have on individual and community health.
As Healing Arts Global Ambassador, Nicola will open the Healing Arts Scotland National Conference in Edinburgh on Thursday 18 June welcoming UK and international delegates from Scotland. She will help raise the profile of Healing Arts Scotland and its mission to amplify the benefits of the arts on individual health and community cohesion.
Edinburgh International Festival Director, Nicola Benedetti, said: “It is a deep honour to be named the first Global Ambassador for Healing Arts. This recognition reflects a growing understanding that the arts are not peripheral to our lives, but fundamental to how we experience, process and care for our own wellbeing and that of others. To contribute to this global conversation is a responsibility we all share, to ensure that creativity in all its forms, is recognised as an essential part of a healthier, more connected society.”
WHO Regional Office for Europe / Jameel Arts & Health Lab, Nils Fietje, said: “I’m delighted that Nicola Benedetti has been named as the Jameel Arts&Health Lab’s first ever Global Ambassador. In many of her leadership roles, as well as through her own artistic practice, Nicola has prominently championed the value of arts and health.”
